EASTWOOD DISTRICT RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB

T G MILLNER COMPLEX

Following its admission to the Sydney Senior Competition in 1947 the Club with the financial help of Col.Tom Millner purchased approximately seven and a half acres of land a mile and a half north-east of Eastwood Railway Station with the view of establishing its own ground. This was revolutionary thinking in Sydney at the time, as sporting bodies had access to grounds owned and maintained by local Councils at a reasonable cost. In fact, it is still revolutionary!

Eastwood remains the only First Division Club in Sydney to own its Rugby Fields outright.

The original playing field and clubhouse were constructed by voluntary labour and further finance was obtained from the sale of non-voting shares to supporters and players.

By 1963 the Field had been named after our benefactor, Tom Millner, and with the construction of dressing rooms and the upgrading of the Field and facilities, the club moved from Eastwood Oval for all home matches.

In 1967 more land was purchased increasing the land holding to more than sixteen acres. This land today is valued conservatively at approximately $20 million. The additional land area was quickly developed so that during the season three full sized pitches are available for games and training.

These fields were floodlit for night training in 1969, which was also the year that our grandstand was constructed.
